How to Get Power Armor Early in Fallout 4

Power armor is one of the most valuable assets you can acquire in Fallout 4, offering strong protection and unique advantages. Here’s a guide to obtaining it early in the game:

1. Museum of Freedom Encounter

The easiest and earliest way to obtain power armor is during the main quest "When Freedom Calls." After encountering Preston Garvey and the Minutemen inside the Museum of Freedom in Concord, you’ll receive instructions to find a power armor suit on the rooftop. You’ll also obtain a fusion core in the basement to power it. This suit is a T-45 model, which is one of the weaker variants but perfect for starting out.

2. Exploring Military Sites

If you want to find additional power armor frames early, try scouting military checkpoints and abandoned locations. For example:

  • National Guard Training Yard: Often holds partial suits with some missing components. You’ll need to unlock a side room to access it.
  • Fort Hagen: While advancing through this area, you might encounter some power armor pieces worn by enemies or stored within.

3. Tips for Higher-Tier Armor

Power armor scales with your level. For example, at higher levels, you’ll start seeing T-60 or even X-01 armor in areas such as the South Boston military checkpoint. However, if you enter these areas too early, they will lock to lower-tier armor. To maximize your chances of finding better armor, delay exploring these high-level locations until you’ve reached at least level 28.

4. Random Encounters and Checkpoints

Some checkpoints might have enemies already wearing power armor. If you defeat them, you can claim the pieces. These suits may not always be complete but can give you valuable components to upgrade your own set. Look around West Roxbury or the Mass Pike Interchange for such encounters.

By following these steps, you’ll not only have a reliable power armor suit from the start, but you’ll also be on track to upgrade it as you progress further in the game. Make sure to keep spare fusion cores to avoid running out of power at crucial moments!
